Painting traffic control boxes - artbox

Well it was a lovely couple of days. The weather was perfect and I had a beautiful autumn breeze straight off the ocean all day. These artboxes are traffic control boxes for traffic lights and they take a battering from graffiti so the Council hires volunteers to paint them and cover them over with anti-graffiti paint. They are scattered all over the Gold Coast and are a wonderful tourist attraction. This one is in Coolangatta just as you turn off the highway into Kirra.

When I Came back to finish on the second day a man came over to congratulate me on my work (he’d been watching my progress from a highrise unit above the site) and gave me a little bundle of chocolates wrapped in tissue and tied with a bow. I was thrilled, and asked him to take a photo as we artists do this work solo and can’t get a shot otherwise.

I have loved doing the artboxes. I submit a few designs to the Council’s specifications and get them approved before venturing out into the sunshine. I have done 4 now. Others are on my website under Recent Paintings link.
